Project/Little Island
Completed/
2021
Location/
Pier55 in Hudson River Park @ West 13th Street, New York NY
Story/
In 2015, a couple years into the development of this most unusual of undertakings, a hilly, tree-covered new island hovering over the Hudson a few hundred feet off the West Side Highway, S/A joined the effort as Architect of Record to support the designers, engineers, and contractors who together in the following six years took it from an improbability to a reality. The project, conceived by Barry Diller and advanced in partnership with the Hudson River Park Trust, joins nature and art on 2.4 acres of lawns, pathways, plazas, woodlands, gardens, and an amphitheater open to the sky above and the river to the west.
